Every productivity guru on the internet wants you to wake up at 4 AM, meditate for an hour, journal three pages, take a cold shower, and do yoga before the sun comes up. Cool. I work a real job. That's not happening.
Here's my simple morning routine. It takes 30 minutes. It actually works. And it doesn't require you to cosplay as a monk.
The 30-Minute Breakdown
Minutes 1-5: Get Up and Hydrate
Alarm goes off, feet hit the floor. No snooze button — that's non-negotiable. Snoozing is just practicing quitting first thing in the morning. Grab a big glass of water. I add Sqwincher to mine because Florida heat is no joke, and starting hydrated makes everything else easier.
Minutes 5-10: Move Your Body
Not a full workout. Just movement. Push-ups, bodyweight squats, some stretching. The goal is to get blood flowing and shake off the sleep fog. Five minutes. That's it. You don't need a gym for this part.
Minutes 10-15: Supplements and Fuel
This is when I take my stack — creatine, magnesium, zinc, D3, omega-3. Whatever yours looks like, make it part of the sequence so you don't forget. Then something light to eat. I keep it simple. Don't overcomplicate breakfast.
Minutes 15-25: One Intentional Thing
This is the block that makes the whole routine work. Spend ten minutes on ONE thing that moves your life forward. Not email. Not social media. One intentional action.
Some days that's reading. Some days it's planning my training. Sometimes it's reviewing my budget or working on a side project. The content doesn't matter as much as the habit of doing something proactive before the world starts demanding your attention.
Minutes 25-30: Get Ready and Go
Shower, dress, whatever you need. By the time you're heading out the door, you've already moved, hydrated, fueled up, and accomplished something. Most people haven't even gotten out of bed yet.
Why This Works for Regular Guys
Most morning routine advice is designed for people who don't have real constraints. They assume you have unlimited time, no commute, and a personal chef. This routine assumes you're a normal dude with a job and responsibilities.
The key morning habits aren't complicated:
- No snooze. Start the day with a win, not a surrender.
- Hydrate before caffeine. Your body is dehydrated from sleep. Water first.
- Move before you sit. Even five minutes changes your energy for hours.
- Be proactive before reactive. Do your thing before you check what everyone else wants from you.
Start Smaller If You Need To
If 30 minutes sounds like a lot, start with 15. Do the water, the movement, and one intentional thing. Build from there. The worst morning routine is the one you abandon after three days because it was too ambitious.
Consistency beats intensity. Every single time.
